The 7 Habits of the Heart and Mind
Refinement
A moment during this project when I refined was when working on my scary story. I think almost every one on the Co-Op did LOTS of refining on their story. I took feedback and applied it when classmates or Ms. Sara gave me ideas. I also took time outside of school to work on my story and refine on sensory detail or dialogue. I think refinement is a strength for because I am dedicated to my work and want to continue making everything I do better. I believe that I can always improve, I think I can keep refining if put in lots of effort and continue to look at my work critically.
Evidence
I think my group used evidence when we used our scene drawings to try to make it come to life. I remember that we printed out copies of our scene drawing for everyone in my group so that we could carry them around and refer to them when planning and building our scene. My group also made evidence of our work when we took pictures of us working or of our final scene. I think Evidence is a strength for me because not only do I love to take pictures but I think I'm good at backing up my ideas with facts or evidence.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness was very important in Casa De Miedo. In order for everyone to be safe and to also make our scene scary we had to be very mindful of what we were doing. A moment I had to be mindful during this project was when we were building the frames for a jail cell that we made. My group had the exact amount of wood needed to make the frames so there was no room for mistakes but we also had a limited time to use the saw. My group had to be very mindful so we could cut all the wood correctly while still doing it in an efficient and timely manner. I think mindfulness is something that I can improve on . In the future I want to make sure that even when I am under stress and have lots of work to do I can still be thoughtful and mindful.
Compassion
I think a time when I demonstrated compassion was when I helped out the Morgue scene. About a week from the Casa De Miedo exhibition the scene before us was falling behind. They were having trouble communicating and were worried that they would get cut because they wouldn't be able to finish. My entire group stopped what we were doing and helped them build free standing walls and frames that they needed. This really helped them out and made their scene successful!
Perspective
A way that I used perspective during Casa De Miedo was putting myself in the shoes of the audience. Since our goal was to make our scene as scary as possible, so my group had to look at our scene through different points of view. We also had to look at our scene in the perspective of how safe it was in order to make sure no one got hurt.
Perseverance
Though Casa De Miedo, I think I have really grown in perseverance. I have been at High Tech for 3 years now and I can honestly say that Casa De Miedo is the hardest project I have ever done. This project was difficult physically and mentally. Going into the project I knew that it was going to be a lot of building and hands on work but I had no idea that I would have to push myself to keep going and to continue even when I was tired or tell myself everyday not to give up. I don’t think I have ever had to persevere as much as I did in Casa De Miedo because I had to keep on working even when I was mad at my group members or when I didn't think that we were going to finish on time. I have learned ways to deal with stress and keep going in difficult situations.
Cooperation
A time I think the entire Co-Op showed cooperation was on the day of the exhibition, abut 3 hours before Casa De Miedo. The Maze scene was still not finished and they needed a lot of help. Everyone from different groups and even parents came together to help them finish putting up black plastic or wire together plastic. This moment was very special because I think that it really defined the Co-Op because we all came together to perceiver, collaborate and get the job done.
Our Writing Community!
At the beginning of the year, before we started writing we had many discussions about our experience with writing. This was important because we learned that a lot of people are not confident in their writing because in the past they have been brought down about their writing or they haven't had the chance to improve and refine their writing. Doing this created a comfortable enviorment where we could share our writing and not be afraid to make mistakes. One way I have contributed to grow our writing community is by being on the editing team. Although at some point in this project we all gave critique, I went through many stories and made the final edits before we displayed them.
